At Dayboro State School we are passionate about the nurturing of the whole child. We strive to enable our students to achieve to their academic potential by providing challenging and exciting learning opportunities within a supportive and caring environment. Our teachers plan, teach, assess and report on the Australian Curriculum in:
- Humanities and Social Sciences,
- Health and Physical Education,
- The Arts,
- Technologies; and
- Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - French
Curriculum in Prep incorporates the Early Years Curriculum Guidelines (EYCG), as well as the Australian Curriculum in English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education and The Arts.
We have a strong focus on the development of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT skills. Our teachers and specialist staff provide a variety of activities that cater for the needs, interests and abilities of all students.
Our school has highly skilled and professional teachers who create classroom environments in which all students are expected to learn successfully. They set high expectations for student learning and create orderly classrooms in which students feel safe and supported to learn. They are driven by a belief that, although individuals are at different stages in their learning, every student is capable of learning and making progress beyond their current level of attainment if motivated and given appropriate learning opportunities and support. Our teachers have deep knowledge of the subjects they teach. They also have deep understandings of how students learn those subjects. They maximise student engagement - and hence learning - by differentiating teaching according to student needs and by providing continuous feedback to learning. Our teachers are highly effective teachers who reflect on their own practice and strive for continuous improvement.
A key feature of our school program is the daily Literacy block and Numeracy block. During the Literacy Block, students are explicitly taught the skills of reading, writing, spelling, listening, grammar, punctuation, handwriting and oracy. In the Numeracy block students are explicitly taught number facts and problem-solving within the context of mathematics for the real world.
Differentiated instruction, higher order thinking and a balanced approach to literacy and numeracy underpin curriculum at Dayboro State School. Teachers use strategies such as Blooms Revised Taxonomy, Gardiner’s Multiple Intelligences and De Bono’s Thinking Hats when designing and implementing units or work, share ideas within and across year levels, undertake professional development in alignment with school and systemic initiatives, promote inclusive practices in their planning, teaching and assessment and evaluate and revise their practice on a regular basis. Teachers aim to engage and motivate students in challenging, relevant and real world experiences.
The integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a defining strength of the curriculum delivery at Dayboro State School. The use of digital technologies in all Key Learning Areas is integral to all curriculum offerings. Explicit teaching occurs across the school through guided, shared, modelled and independent learning activities. Teachers are supported in their endeavour to maintain contemporary teaching strategies through the use of ICTs. The use of Learning Place Virtual Classrooms, edstudios and other selected web based tools is widespread in classrooms across the school. Use of digital technologies engages students and digital tools enable students to actively participate in learning, communicate with others and transform their understanding in a variety of contexts.
Term unit overviews for each year level are on display in the office foyer for parents and interested community members. Teachers, students and parents celebrate students’ achievements and successes at school parades, via the school newsletter and at class Culminating Days at the end of each term.
