WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4!

Welcome back to term four – our last term of the year! We hope you all had a great holiday.

Term four's unit is entitled: “What a Disaster!”, and throughout this term, the children will study the causes and effects of a variety of natural disasters. The children will consider how natural disasters affect local and global communities, why we plan in advance, and what we can do to survive a natural disaster.

After building this general knowledge of several natural disasters, the children will then refine their studies and more deeply study two disasters in particular. Their knowledge and understanding of these topics will be presented in information brochure format using Microsoft Publisher as a presentation tool.

Technology developed and innovated on for disaster rescue and recovery missions will also be studied, and the children will spend time participating in a variety of design challenges that will develop their own skills of innovation.

Creative writing skills will also be further developed this term, with the children working on vivid written descriptions.

This term, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) will again be used as a tool to support and enhance what the children learn in the classroom. ICTs are exciting and engaging for the children, and cater for a wide variety of learning styles. It is always exciting for the children to learn how to use new software, or publish their work in a more engaging way.

Many hands on activities will also be included throughout the term to add variety and richness to the children’s learning experiences.

Our class has been working hard on maintaining the vegetable garden and helping to clear the school grounds of weeds and litter too.

We look forward to catching up with you all at some time this term.

Kind regards,

Mrs Kerry Cassell and Mr Tony Easlea (class teachers)
