It’s TERM FOUR….
And it’s all about the rules and laws that govern our communities in a unit called…
THE ‘RULE’ OF DEMOCRACY!!!
Throughout the term, students will become immersed in some ‘real’ life, public issues when they investigate what makes society function so effectively. The students will have fun learning about rules and laws through a series of lessons that are not only thought-provoking, but hands on and enjoyable. Students will learn some key concepts through physical activity and dramatic experiences.
The assessment for this unit involves students creating freeze frames (drama) of a scene, taking photographs of their freeze frames and using the photographs in a story board created in Windows Movie Maker. Their photo story will be submitted with accompanying written and spoken texts.
By the end of this term, students should be able to:
· Explain the difference between rules and laws;
· Recognize who makes and enforces rules and laws;
· Detail the process of following and breaking laws;
· Establish sensible rules for their everyday living with appropriate rewards and consequences; and
· Identify the behaviours that are necessary to live as effective and lawful community citizens.
Virtual Classroom
The students had a lot of fun using the Virtual Classroom (VC) in term three. So, I thought it only fair to bring it back for the final time this year….a brand new Virtual Classroom space.
Students can access this term’s VC and school email accounts by clicking on the links below and entering their login details (same as last term).
Rules and Laws Virtual Classroom
Student email account
This space is available 24/7 and has plenty of features that will assist the student’s learning journey this term. Students are encouraged to make regular visits to the VC to access:
· Homework;
· Education Learning Objects;
· Blogs and forums; and
· Assessment tasks.
Students will have equitable access to the classroom computers to take the pressure off families with limited internet access.
I wish the students every success this term as we embark on a learning journey that explores the necessity of rules and laws.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of my students and parents for making my first year of teaching a most enjoyable and invaluable experience.
